Jane Birkin was one of the world's most famous actors, performers and songwriters. She catapulted to stardom after the release of the controversial hit: Je t'aime, moi non plus, which was written by Serge Gainsbourg, originally intended as a duet with Brigitte Bardot but given to Jane instead. She died in July 2023. She was first married to composer John Barry, the father to Jane's first child, Kate. She moved to Paris in the 1960's and later started a relationship with Serge after her marriage to Barry broke up. This relationship with Serge Gainsbourg was to be the one of the most famous of 20th century France. They had a daughter, now world famous in her own right as an actor, Charlotte. The first volume of Jane's journal : 'Munkey Diaries' 1957-1982 (Weidenfeld) covered the first 25 years of her life, culminating in the split with Serge in '82. It was extremely well received and noted especially for the honesty and intimacy of the diary's contents. Postscriptum is the second volume
